TMS swimmers travel to D.C. Everest, host meet in Tomahawk

WESTON – The Tomahawk Middle School (TMS) girls’ swim team recently traveled to D.C. Everest and hosted a meet in Tomahawk.

D.C. Everest

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the swimmers traveled to D.C. Everest in Weston to compete in a meet.

Also participating were D.C. Everest, Wisconsin Rapids and Antigo.

Results are as follows.

Team Results: DC Everest 121, Tomahawk 33; Wisconsin Rapids 76, Tomahawk 75; Tomahawk 83, Antigo 49.

Elaine Huber, Nora Bubolz, Kamryn Black and Kortney Busterud, 2nd place in the 200-yard medley relay (2:25.01), season-best time.

Kamryn Black, 1st place in the 100-yard IM (1:17.98), personal record.

Kamryn Black and Elaine Huber, 2nd and 3rd places (34.68 and 34.93), respectively, in the 50-yard butterfly, both personal records.

Elaine Huber, Kortney Busterud, Nora Bubolz, and Kamryn Black, 2nd place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:04.86), season-best time.

Elaine Huber, 1st place in the 50-yard backstroke (33.47), personal record.

Everlyn Niemeyer, Sloane Eisenman, Nora Bubolz and Kortney Busterud, 3rd place in the 400 freestyle relay (5:24.94).

Other notables performances:

Sloane Eisenman and Claire Hauge tried the 200-yard freestyle for the first time.

Skylar Safranek-Aniol dropped two seconds on her 50-yard freestyle (36.97).

Claire Hauge dropped three seconds in her 100-yard freestyle (1:26.48).

“The girls have been doing a great job as they try many new events throughout the season,” said coach Megan Backes. “Competing against D.C. Everest, who has over three times as many swimmers, was a big challenge. These girls put in their best efforts every week, and it shows in how much they have improved.”

Tomahawk meet

The middle school swimmers hosted a meet in Tomahawk on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Also competing were Medford, James Williams and Horace Mann.

Results are as follows.

Team results: Medford 76, Tomahawk 74; James Williams 79, Tomahawk 69; Horace Mann 80, Tomahawk 73.

Elaine Huber, Nora Bubolz, Kamryn Black and Kortney Busterud finished in 1st place in the 100-yard medley relay, (2:22.38).

Elaine Huber (2:22.27, personal record), Nora Bubolz (2:43.74, personal record) and Kortney Busterud (2:47.66, personal record), took 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.

Kamryn Black (1:15.54, personal record) and Sloane Eisenman (1:31.01, personal record) took 1st and 5th, respectively, in the 100-yard IM.

Elaine Huber (28.42, personal record) placed 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle.

Nora Bubolz (37.37, personal record) placed 3rd in the 50-yard butterfly.

Kamryn Black, Kortney Busterud, Nora Bubolz and Elaine Huber (2:05.00) took 1st place in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Kamryn Black (40.16, personal record) and Sloane Eisenman (45.71, personal record) placed 2nd and 4th, respectively, in the 50-yard breaststroke.

Kortney Busterud, Everlyn Niemeyer, Skylar Safranek-Aniol and Sloane Eisenman (5:29.43) took 4th place in the 400 freestyle relay.

Personal records: Claire Hauge, 50-yard freestyle (37.88); Jade Niemeyer, 50-yard Freestyle (57.25); Skylar Safranek-Aniol (45.85).

“This team continues to impress with their ability to improve their times at every meet,” Backes stated.

This week’s action

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the team is slated to travel to Mosinee for a meet.

The swimmers are scheduled to take part in a meet at Horace Mann Middle School in Sheboygan on Saturday, Oct. 11.
