Housing development groundbreaking ceremony held in Tomahawk

Posted

TOMAHAWK – The construction of a new housing development in Tomahawk took a major step forward last week.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held at 1961 Comfort Dr., the site near U.S. Hwy. 51 and the eastern city limits where the 72-unit, multi-family residential apartment complex will be built.

The project is being spearheaded by S.C. Swiderski LLC, a Mosinee-based real estate management and property development company with rental properties in numerous area communities, including Eagle River, Medford, Merrill and Wausau.

In June, the City of Tomahawk Common Council unanimously approved a Land Transfer and Development Agreement with S.C. Swiderski, under which the city’s Community Development Authority (CDA) transferred the parcel of land to the firm for $1. As part of the agreement, the company was required to begin construction on the development by this month.

The agreement said the city and the CDA have determined that the construction of the housing development is “in the best interests of the city and its residents” and will “serve public purposes in accordance with state and local law, as the project will improve underutilized land, provide jobs, expand the city’s tax base and increase property tax revenues.”

Work is slated to be completed in about two years, and the development is anticipated to have a minimum assessed value of $9.5 million.

According to plans from S.C. Swiderski, the roughly 13-acre development, which the firm refers to as “SCS Tomahawk,” is expected to feature four apartment buildings with one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plan options. A leasing office will also be on-site.

S.C. Swiderski said SCS Tomahawk represents the company’s “continued commitment to bringing quality, thoughtfully designed housing to communities across Wisconsin.”

“This upcoming development will offer modern living spaces built with comfort, functionality and long-term value in mind,” S.C. Swiderski stated.

The company added that it is “excited to be a part of Tomahawk,” noting that it “recognizes the housing need in the area, believes in the power of supporting local businesses and is committed to being an active member and partner of the Tomahawk community.”

Last week’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local officials and representatives from the Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce and S.C. Swiderski, as well as community members. Along with the ceremonial groundbreaking, the event also featured lunch provided by Blitz Street food truck and basket raffle drawings.

S.C. Swiderski thanked those on hand for the ceremony, including City of Tomahawk Mayor Michael “Hob” Habeck, Charis Lau of the Tomahawk Chamber, Mohammad Amin, Justin Smothers, Dale Bergman, Joseph Sturzl, Nicole Blum, Roger Schlegel, Stacy Stephanus, Cory Schlosser and Theuns Joubert, as well as Nicolet National Bank, REI Engineering, County Land and Title, Marathon Technical Services and “many others.”

“We were honored to celebrate this exciting milestone alongside community members, partners, local leaders, contractors and supporters,” the company said. “We look forward to bringing new housing opportunities to the Tomahawk community and watching this vision come to life.”
