LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to search for a Winnebago County man missing since this summer, and the public is asked to watch for and report any signs of the man during fall outdoor activities.

On Wednesday, June 25, the Sheriff’s Office announced that a car belonging to Mitchell S. Reif, of Winneconne, Wis., had been found abandoned on private land off of East Circle Dr. in the Town of Somo.

The Sheriff’s Office said it contacted the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office for further information about Reif. Winnebago County law enforcement said Reif had been the subject of a welfare check in the county on Sunday, June 22, but he had not been located. Reif, described by the Sheriff’s Office as being approximately 5'8" tall, weighing about 250 pounds and having brown hair and blue eyes, was listed as a missing/endangered person in Winnebago County as of Wednesday, June 25.

While Lincoln County deputies searched for Reif in the area where his car was found, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a landowner on Homestead Rd. who said they captured a photo of an individual matching Reif's description on a trail camera. The photo was captured about a half-mile of south of where Reif’s car was discovered on June 22 at 8:48 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office asked landowners in the area, including those in southeastern Price County, to check their trail cameras and to keep an eye out for individuals matching Reif’s description.

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Sheriff’s Office said it had been continuing its search for Reif over the previous several weeks, including additional searches with trained and experienced K9 teams in recent days.

“Unfortunately, we have not uncovered any new or relevant information at this time,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “If you are in the area hunting, ATVing or participating in other fall recreation in the coming days and weeks, please watch for and notify the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office of any sign of Mitchell that might assist in determining his whereabouts.”

The Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 715-536-6272.
