MERRILL – A Tomahawk woman charged with fatally stabbing her husband reached a plea deal last month.
Michelle Sanderson, 45, appeared in Lincoln County court on Thursday, Sept. 24, where she pleaded no contest to an amended charge of first-degree reckless injury and one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer.
Sanderson was originally charged with one felony count of first-degree reckless homicide, one misdemeanor count of resisting or obstructing an officer and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, each with a domestic abuse modifier. She was also charged with one misdemeanor count of bail jumping.
The disorderly conduct and bail jumping charges were dismissed but read in as part of the plea deal, and a trial scheduled for next year has been canceled.
Sanderson was accused of stabbing her husband, Richard “Ricky” Sanderson, 50, in their Tomahawk home on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025. According to a criminal complaint, Michelle Sanderson told authorities that she found Richard Sanderson outside already injured, but a third party claimed they witnessed the couple arguing before seeing the alleged stabbing occur.
Sanderson is due back in court on Feb. 15, 2027 for a sentencing hearing.
