In 1954, President Eisenhower declared Nov. 11 as Veterans Day, urging the nation to "solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly... to preserve our heritage of freedom."
Today, more than ever, our veterans and their families deserve our unwavering support, recognition and gratitude for their profound contributions to our nation's enduring liberty and security. The sacrifices made by these brave men and women, often in the face of immense danger and hardship, have safeguarded the freedoms we cherish, and it is our collective duty to ensure their well-being and honor their service.
Lincoln County is proud to once again participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans, a powerful national initiative dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of our nation's heroes.
Throughout the entire month of November, county buildings will be prominently illuminated in green. This vibrant display serves as a deeply meaningful visual reminder to our community's veterans and their families that we stand united with them, that their service is not forgotten, and that their sacrifices are deeply appreciated.
The green light symbolizes hope, renewal and the unwavering support of a grateful community.
We extend a heartfelt invitation to all individuals, families and businesses throughout Lincoln County to join us in this poignant display of solidarity.
Participation is simple, yet profoundly impactful: we ask you to change just one light bulb in your home or business entryway to a green bulb. This small, yet significant, act of displaying a green light visibly signifies to veterans that they are seen, appreciated and unequivocally supported by their community.
While the primary focus of Operation Green Light is the week of Veterans Day (Nov. 4-11), we strongly encourage everyone to keep their green lights shining brightly throughout the entire month of November, extending this powerful message of support for an extended period.
This Veterans Day, let us come together to help illuminate Lincoln County with hope, gratitude, and unwavering support for the more than 2,000 veterans who proudly call our community home. Their presence enriches our community, and their stories are an integral part of our shared history.
To facilitate participation, the Lincoln County Veterans Office is offering free green light bulbs, while supplies last. We encourage you to stop by the office to pick up your bulb and become a visible part of this important initiative.
Join Operation Green Light, and let's turn Lincoln County green, demonstrating our collective respect and appreciation for those who have served and continue to serve our nation with such courage and distinction.
Let our county shine as a beacon of honor and gratitude for our veterans.
