Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Oct. 20, 2025

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Oct. 20:

On 10/16/2025 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on USH 51 near the 214 mile marker in the Township of Merrill. When the deputy made contact with the driver, a Colby man, 29, they noticed signs of impairment. The deputy searched the man’s car and found marijuana. The deputy asked if the man would be willing to perform some sobriety tests. A second deputy with advanced training in drug recognition also conducted some tests. As a result of those tests, the driver was placed under arrest for a first offense of OWI. The man was later transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was also booked for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

On 10/16/2025 a deputy was dispatched to meet with a party in the Town of Harding for a party who was injured in a hunting accident. According to the deputy, a Merrill man, 28, was getting ready to go bow hunting. The man said he carries a hand gun when he bow hunts due to the bear population in the area. The man reported that as he went to put his gun in the holster and it discharged, grazing his foot. The man was later transported by private auto to an unknown hospital for treatment.

On 10/18/2025 a deputy was dispatched Aspirus Merrill Hospital to meet with a party that was injured in a hunting accident. The deputy went to the hospital and made contact with an Irma man, 23. The man reported that he was hunting off of Prairie River Ave. in the Town of Merrill. The man stated that he was loading his crossbow with an arrow when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the finger. The arrow remained in the man’s finger until it was removed by hospital staff.

On 10/19/2025 the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a reckless driver on USH 51 near CTH S in the Town of Skanawan. It was reported that the suspect vehicle was traveling all over the road. A short time later, a deputy was able to locate a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle. The deputy followed the vehicle for a short time, noticing similar driving behavior. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver a man, 19, with no address given. The deputy noticed signs of impairment, and as such asked the driver to perform some sobriety tests. The driver agreed to do the tests, and as a result of those tests, he was placed under arrest for a first offense OWI.

Deputies conducted 30 traffic stops and 15 security checks.

Deputies responded to 18 car vs. deer crashes.
