LCHD to offer no-charge flu, Tdap vaccines to Lincoln County students

Posted

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD) will hold vaccine clinics this fall for county students in 4K through 12th grade.

A release from LCHD said the clinics will provide the flu shot (FluLaval), flu nasal mist (FluMist) and Tdap shot (BOOSTRIX) at no charge. Supplies are limited.

Clinics will be held at Merrill High School on Tuesday, Oct. 14; Prairie River Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 21; and the School District of Tomahawk on Thursday, Oct. 30.

Lincoln County students enrolled in 4K, elementary and private schools are welcome to attend a clinic at LCHD, 607 N. Sales St., Merrill, on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

LCHD noted that the clinic schedule is dependent on vaccine availability, and any schedule changes will be communicated to parent(s)/guardian(s).

Pre-registration is required for all clinics and must be completed a week prior to the clinic. Walk-ins will not be accepted. To pre-register, visit www.bit.ly/LCStudentClinics.

“By completing the pre-registration form, parent(s)/guardian(s) are giving consent to LCHD to vaccinate their child with the flu and/or Tdap vaccine while at school,” LCHD stated. “Parent(s)/guardian(s) do not need to be present at school based clinics. Please have your child dress appropriately so their upper arm is easily accessible the day of clinic.”

LCHD is also holding a Youth Vaccine Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The clinic is for children 18 years and younger who don’t have insurance or are enrolled or eligible for Medicaid. This includes BadgerCare, ForwardHealth or any medical assistance. All routine child vaccines, including the flu vaccine, will be available at no cost. Pre-registration is required and can be completed by calling LCHD at 715-536-0307 or emailing LCHealth@co.lincoln.wi.us.

LCHD said an annual flu shot is one of the best ways to prevent the flu and is recommended for everyone six months and older. The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis).

For more information on the clinics, contact LCHD at 715-536-0307 or LCHealth@co.lincoln.wi.us.

“If your child receives a flu and/or Tdap vaccine prior to their scheduled clinic, please call LCHD to cancel their appointment,” LCHD stated.
