LCHD, Opioid Task Force holding three community conversations about substance use

Posted

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD), in partnership with the Lincoln County Opioid Task Force, will host three community conversations about substance use and the importance of community support.

A release from LCHD said the events are part of a larger effort to reduce stigma around substance use and promote harm reduction.

“Stigma, negative attitudes or beliefs about substance use can make it harder for people to seek help,” LCHD stated.

“Our community assessment showed that stigma is a major reason people who use substances do not seek treatment in Lincoln County,” said Erin Ray, LCHD Opioid Grant Coordinator. “We can reduce that stigma by having open, respectful conversations that build understanding and support within our communities.”

LCHD said community members are encouraged to attend, share their perspectives, listen and learn.

“These conversations are an opportunity to connect with others and help build a healthier, more supportive community for individuals and families,” LCHD stated.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • Virtual event (bit.ly/LincTownHall), Wednesday, Feb. 25, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • B. Scott Free Library, 106 1st St., Merrill, Tuesday, March 17, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Kinship of Tomahawk, 227 W. Wisconsin Ave., Tomahawk, Wednesday, April 8, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided at the Merrill and Tomahawk events.
