Callahan declines Congressional run

Posted

TOMAHAWK – State Representative Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk) this week announced that he will not seek to represent Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District.

Callahan currently represents the state’s 35th Assembly District, which includes all of Lincoln and Langlade counties, as well as parts of Marathon, Oneida, Oconto and Shawano counties.

In a Monday, Oct. 20 statement, Callahan said he was “deeply humbled and grateful for the incredible outpouring of encouragement and support” he received from friends, neighbors and community members across northern Wisconsin urging him to run for Congress.

Callahan said he decided not to seek election to Congress “at this time” after “careful thought and conversations” with friends and family.

“There is still important work to be done in Madison,” Callahan stated. “Representing the hardworking people of the 35th Assembly District is one of the greatest honors of my life, and I remain focused on making the Northwoods a great place to live, work and raise your families.”

Callahan was first elected to the State Assembly in 2020. He previously served on the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors from 2018 to 2023 and on the Town of Wilson board from 2019 to 2021.

Current 7th District Representative Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) last month announced that he will run for governor in 2026.
