With ARPA funds, Town of King improves Lake Alice boat landings

Posted

TOWN OF KING – Several boat landings on an area lake have been improved, thanks to federal dollars allocated to Lincoln County and the efforts of a local township.

In 2021, Lincoln County received roughly $5.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds as part of the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the following several years, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors voted to dedicate ARPA dollars to a variety of areas, including county promotion and marketing; improving campgrounds, parks and county roads; and covering losses at the formerly county-owned Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill.

The board last year allocated approximately $117,000.00 in ARPA funds to the Town of King, which used the monies to upgrade several boat landings on Lake Alice, east of Tomahawk.

Each of the five public boat landings overseen by the Town of King saw various improvements made.

At the Shorewood Rd. landing, a new handicap-accessible dock was installed, as well as a state-of-the-art kayak and canoe launch.

The Birch Rd. and Horseshoe Rd. landings each received a new dock, and a dock previously used on Horseshoe Rd. was moved to the Sandy Ln. landing.

The boat launch and parking areas on Anglers Ave. were given a facelift, and the approaches for each of the other boat landings were also redone.

Town of King Supervisor Dave Dyer said the project was a collective effort.

“This is the Town of King doing what it’s supposed to do,” Dyer stated. “Improving, helping the community, making things better.”

Dyer added that he hopes the renovations lead to more people having access to and enjoying Lake Alice.

A new handicap-accessible dock was installed at the Shorewood Rd. landing on Lake Alice.

A new, state-of-the-art kayak and canoe launch can also be found at the Shorewood Rd. landing.

The Birch Rd. landing now has a new dock.

The Anglers Ave. boat launch was improved.

The parking area at Anglers Ave. was also upgraded.

A new dock was installed at the Horseshoe Rd. landing.

A dock previously used on Horseshoe Rd. was relocated to Sandy Ln.
