William L. Nyberg Sr., age 92, of Oshkosh, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, Wis. William was born in Tomahawk on June 9, 1932, to the late Bert and Ethel (Fehrman) Nyberg. He was married to Constance Malzeke on Jan. 2, 1951, at Calvary Lutheran Chapel at UW-Madison. They were married for 65 years until Connie’s death on April 29, 2016. Throughout the years, they made their home in Madison, Wis., Pittsburgh, Penn., West Simsbury, Conn., Fond du Lac, Wis., Appleton, Wis., and Butte des Morts, Wis. Bill moved to the Evergreen Retirement Community in 2020.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Tomahawk High School and attended the UW-Madison for one year. He later worked for Giddings & Lewis Machine Tool Co. for over 33 years; retiring in 1984 at the age of 52. Following his retirement, he and Connie traveled extensively both in the United States and internationally. Bill enjoyed boating, hunting, playing pool, and sports. He was a baseball fan and a former pitcher for the Bowman Dairy Industrial League in Madison where he was nicknamed “Fireball.” Bill captured everyone’s attention with his ability to recite limericks and tell jokes. A faithful Christian and very patriotic, Bill was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children, Coral (Allen) Arneson, Catherine (Herbert) Buck, and William (Dawn) Nyberg; his brother, Edwin (Sally) Nyberg, in addition to other relatives and friends. He is further survived by his eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ethel; his wife, Constance; his daughter, Constance (Tyler) Norton; his grandsons, David Arneson and Mikey Girard; his granddaughter, Beth Sartore; and his sister, Shirley (Bill) White.
A memorial service for William Nyberg will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Generations Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Gass will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Memorials appreciated to Lord of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in Winneconne, WIis.
