Wausau woman sentenced to probation, community service in 2018 fatal UTV crash in Town of Nokomis

RHINELANDER – A Wausau woman charged in a fatal UTV crash in the Town of Nokomis in 2018 pleaded no contest to a single count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in Oneida County court on Monday, July 26. A single count of homicide by use of a vehicle with PAC was dismissed.

According to court records, Brenda S. Reiche, 50, will serve three years of probation and must perform 100 hours of community service, providing education on the dangers of drinking and operating vehicles. Reiche cannot consume alcohol or enter taverns, and her driver’s license was suspended for five years.

On Aug. 4, 2018, the UTV Reiche was operating left the roadway on The Point Road East in the Town of Nokomis and struck a tree. The passenger, Adam Rietz, 49, of Athens, died at the scene. Reiche received serious injuries in the incident.

It was determined at the time of the accident that Reiche was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the crash, according to authorities.
