U.S. Hwy. 51 to be closed, detoured for spring construction project

Posted

NORTHERN WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) this week announced that U.S. Hwy. 51 in Lincoln and Oneida Counties will be closed and detoured this spring prior to Memorial Day.

A release from WisDOT said the project will run from U.S. Hwy. 8 to the Bearskin Bridge near County Hwy. L in Oneida County.

The detour route will follow U.S. Hwy. 8 and State Hwy. 47, according to WisDOT.

“This project is not associated with the proposed roundabout at U.S. Hwy. 51 and County Hwy. K/Swamp Lake Rd. in Oneida County being developed for construction in 2027,” WisDOT stated. “This project involves repairing concrete pavement, resurfacing the asphalt and bridge repairs.”

WisDOT said work will continue after Memorial Day with lane closures and flaggers. All lanes will be open for weekend traffic.

More information will be available closer to construction, scheduled to begin April 2026, according to WisDOT.
