Tomahawk Swim Club hosts CWSC Championships

Maki competes at State level

TOMAHAWK – Last month, the Tomahawk Swim Club (TSC) hosted the Central Wisconsin Swim Conference (CWSC) Championships at the School District of Tomahawk pool.

A total of 14 teams with swimmers from ages 6 to 17 and from as far south as Wisconsin Rapids, east as Eau Claire and North as Bay Area Swim Club from the Bayfield area took part in the event, held on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9.

In all, 400 swimmers took part in 132 events over three sessions.

The Lakeland Swim Club was the top point finisher for the weekend, followed by Rhinelander and the Bloomer Sharks.

The Tomahawk Swim Club is a small club of made of 32 swimmers for the 2024-2025 season.

Tomahawk had 14 swimmers qualify for anywhere from one to eight events at the CWSC Championship meet: Maci Bandura, Owen Bergtagnoli, Kamryn Black, Nora Bubolz, Kortney Busterud, Sloane Eisenman, Carlee Halverson, Elaine Huber, Kylin Lechleitner, Damian Long, Allie Maki, Raylee Maki, Everlyn Neimeyer and Elli Tollefson.

Top Tomahawk swimmers on the weekend included Raylee Maki with a 1st place finish in the 8 and under 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard freestyle, 5th in the 25-yard butterfly, and 5th in the 50 free. The Girls 10 an under 200-yard freestyle relay (Allie Maki, Kylin Lechleitner, Everlyn Neimeyer and Maci Bandura) also had an impressive finish.

Owen Bergtagnoli took 5th in the 8 and under 100 freestyle, while Kamryn Black placed 3rd in the 11- to 12-year-old 50 backstroke and 4th in the 11- to 12-year-old 100 backstroke.

In addition to her impressive performance at the conference meet, Raylee Maki, age 8, has made five State cut times throughout the 2024-2025 season. She was set to swim this past weekend (Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2) at the 10 and Under Wisconsin State Swimming Championships in Verona, Wis.

Maki competed in the 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, as well as the first and anchor legs in the 100 medley and 100 free relays, respectively.

“This is quite the impressive feet for the young swimmer,” said TSC President Jen Black ahead of the meet. “We wish Raylee and her fellow NLAC State Swimmers all the luck this weekend.”
