MERRILL – The Tomahawk Hatchet volleyball team has been busy since its season kicked off in late August.
Merrill scrimmage, Whitewater invitational
The Hatchets opened their season with a scrimmage in Merrill on Saturday, Aug. 19 and took part in an invitational in Whitewater on Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26, where they went 4-4. Tomahawk earned wins over Clinton, Tremper, Whitewater and Jefferson and fell to Heritage Christian, Eisenhower, Milton and Lakeside Lutheran.
Ashland
On Tuesday, Aug. 29, the Tomahawk spikers traveled to Ashland, where they were defeated by a score of 1-3.
Macy Jankowicz ended the night with five blocks and four kills, Claire Albert had 11 kills and Samantha Gebauer had 16 digs. Chloe Buckwalter had 13 assists, while Sophie Olsen tallied nine.
D.C. Everest invitational
The Hatchets were on the road again on Saturday, Sept. 2, traveling to D.C. Everest to take part in an invitational.
Tomahawk went 2-2, taking down Wausau West and Wausau East each by a score of 2-1 and falling to Merrill (1-2) and D.C. Everest (0-2).
Antigo
Antigo visited the Hatchet Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and Tomahawk earned a 3-1 win by scores of 25-23, 27-25, 16-25 and 27-25.
Hatchet stats: Chloe Buckwalter, 32 assists, one ace; Macy Jankowicz, 11 kills, three blocks; Samantha Gebauer, 19 digs, two aces; Claire Albert, six digs, 10 kills, two aces; Emerson Lange, nine kills, eight digs.
Marathon
Tomahawk hosted Marathon at the Fieldhouse on Thursday, Sept. 7, and the Hatchets were ultimately defeated 1-3 (21-25, 16-25, 26-24, 20-25).
Hatchet stats: Chloe Buckwalter, 15 assists; Sophie Olsen, 18 assists, five digs; Claire Albert, 20 digs, eight kills; Macy Jankowicz, 10 kills; Cadee Benaszeski, eight kills, five digs.
Merrill invitational
On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Tomahawk spikers took part in an invitational in Merrill.
The Hatchets went 1-4, taking down Medford (2-1) and falling to Chippewa Falls (0-2), Athens (0-2) and Wittenberg-Birnamwood (0-2, 0-2).
This week’s action
Tomahawk is slated to travel to Lakeland on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Hatchets will compete in a Great Northern Conference (GNC) tournament at Antigo High School the begins at 10 a.m.
