Thomas W. Grygo, age 80, of Nekoosa, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa, Wis. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Rev. John Swing will officiate the service.
Thomas was born on May 27, 1944 in New Jersey to the late Joseph and Mercedes (Griffiths) Grygo. He married Marilyn LaCoste on May 28, 1968 in Ames, Iowa. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Delaware Valley College, Thomas went on to earn a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University. Thomas worked for the State of Wisconsin with the DNR for many years. After his time with the DNR, Thomas was self-employed, and worked doing numerous projects with Parks and Recreation, including creating and designing campgrounds. He was a member of the Saratoga Town Board Planning Commission, Knights of Columbus, and always enjoyed volunteering for the DNR with hunter’s safety and the game camera program. Thomas always had a passion for conservation, and cared deeply about nature. In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed photography, gardening, landscaping, and woodworking, specifically wood turning. Thomas was an excellent mentor and teacher. He always enjoyed working with his children and grandchildren on different projects and teaching them many skills along the way.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn; daughters, Andrea Grygo, and Sarah (Michael) Withers; and grandchildren, Logan, Carter, and Mason Withers.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mercedes Grygo; grandparents; and aunt, Zelma Uken.
