For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Salvation Army of Tomahawk, on Friday, Oct. 27, announced that Terry Derleth had been named the Honorary Chairperson of the 2023 Red Kettle Campaign.

Derleth has been actively volunteering for the Salvation Army of Tomahawk since 2009, serving as voucher writer and site coordinator for bell ringing at Trig’s. She also donates her time to the Happy Kids Backpack Program, the Tomahawk Food Pantry, the Tomahawk Area Historical Society and her church.

When asked why she gives so much of her time to volunteering, especially with the Salvation Army, Derleth said, “For me, the holiday season just wouldn’t be the same if it didn’t include bell ringing. It fills my heart with gratitude to witness the generosity and kindness of our community. We are truly blessed to live in such a caring community.”

“We wish to thank and recognize Terry for her years of service to the community,” a release from the Salvation Army of Tomahawk stated.

The Salvation Army board has set a fundraising goal of $55,000.00 for this year’s Red Kettle Campaign. The funds will be used for emergency assistance for those in need, along with supplementing the budget of the Happy Kids Backpack Program.

Wendy Mannering, co-coordinator of the Red Kettle marketing efforts, said those who wish to volunteer to ring can call 630 667-3250, and Win Semmler will assist in scheduling a time. Individuals interested in ringing can also sign up at www.RegistertoRing.com.

“Without our volunteer ringers from churches, school organizations, businesses, business organizations and individual volunteers, we would not be able to reach our goal,” said Dennis Mannering, co-coordinator with Wendy.

“We have an amazing, generous community,” the Mannerings added.

Those who are unable to volunteer to ring but would like to contribute to the Salvation Army’s efforts can mail a donation to Salvation Army of Tomahawk, 108 W. Somo Ave., Tomahawk, Wis., 54487. Checks can be made out to Salvation Army of Tomahawk.

“Thank you to all who have assisted or donated in the past,” the Salvation Army said. “We need you more than ever this year.”
