For the Tomahawk Leader
TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk Extended Area Partners in Education (TEAPIE) recently announced the recipients of its Educator of the Year awards.
The organization said it began honoring local teachers and business leaders with the awards in 2015.
“TEAPIE wants to recognize outstanding academic and business individuals that have made significant contributions, enhancing cooperation and achievement between the education and business communities,” the organization stated.
Each year, the organization requests nominations from members of the public. 13 teachers and four business leaders were nominated this year.
“It is always difficult to choose two individuals to honor as all nominees deserve to be recognized, and this year was no different,” the organization said.
After reviewing all applications, the organization’s board chose Allison Solum as Teacher Educator of the Year and Gregg Albert as Community Educator of the Year.
Solum is the School District of Tomahawk’s Family and Consumer Education teacher. TEAPIE noted that Solum’s list of accomplishments in “lengthy.”
“Examples of her dedication include being the advisor of FCCLA, the facilitator of the Youth Apprenticeship program, and working with Nicolet to offer students opportunities for dual-credit courses,” the organization said. “Nominators describe Ms. Solum as creative and hardworking, going above and beyond the scope of her curriculum, and say her enthusiasm is great for morale, not only for her students, but for all of those she comes in contact with.”
Albert is the owner of Albert Broadcasting. TEAPIE noted that Albert “supports many organizations and events whose primary mission is to help others.”
“He has been a light in our community, serves on multiple boards, is a beacon in this community, and has one of the biggest hearts, nominators say,” TEAPIE said. “Mr. Albert is a leader in teaching people about what it means to be selfless and a team player and is always there to lend a helping hand.”
