Student-made Hatchet cribbage boards available at Standard Mercantile

TOMAHAWK – Hatchet-shaped cribbage boards developed by a pair of Tomahawk High School (THS) students are now available at a downtown business.

Instructor Andy Peissig said the Enterprise Wood Products course at THS teaches students about engineering, manufacturing and business.

“Students enrolled in this class will design a product, create a prototype and present that product to a local business in hopes of getting them to partner with us to sell the product in their store,” Peissig explained. “The students learn about design, prototyping, cost-benefit analysis, product processes, efficiency, material preparation and finishing.”

Nathan and Michael developed a Hatchet-shaped cribbage board to mass produce.

Peissig said to create this project, Nathan and Michael learned how to use a CNC router and UV printer, along with various woodworking equipment and the safety that goes along with that equipment.

“The students were lucky enough to get Standard Mercantile to be our partner to sell the cribbage boards,” Peissig said. “A big thank you to Standard Mercantile for helping our students learn about how businesses operate and proper communication that goes along with running a business.”
