TOMAHAWK – A local manufacturing plant is set to close its doors by the end of the year, resulting in more than 70 employees losing their jobs.

In a Tuesday, Aug. 4 letter to City of Tomahawk Mayor Michael Habeck and the Director of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Dislocated Worker Unit, Samuel Pressure Vessel Group Human Resources Director Chantalle Palke said the company’s entire Tomahawk facility will permanently close, impacting all employees at the plant.

Samuel Pressure Vessel Group is based in Marinette. The company’s Tomahawk facility, located at 1119A Bridge St., specializes in stainless steel and high-alloy ASME pressure vessel design and fabrication.

A total of 76 employees at the Tomahawk plant will lose their jobs, according to the letter. Employees who are not expected to be separated from employment were not included in that count.

Layoffs began on Tuesday, Aug. 4. All employment separations are expected to occur by Thursday, Dec. 31.

“All affected employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” the letter stated. “There will not be any bumping rights for affected employees. Employees will not be able to displace more junior employees out of their positions as a result of this closure.”

Affected employees are not represented by a union.

A reason for the plant’s closure was not provided in the letter.
