WISCONSIN – 35th Assembly District Representative Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma) announced her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 12th Senate District on Monday, March 2.
Felzkowski, who was elected to the Assembly in 2012, launched her bid with an announcement in Merrill Monday morning, followed by stops in Rhinelander and Laona in the afternoon.
In a statement from March 2, Felzkowski said she believes it is “crucial the Northwoods have a strong, conservative voice representing the district down in Madison.”
“My family’s roots run deep in the Northwoods, where I have lived my entire life and learned the meaning of hard work and common-sense decision-making,” Felzkowski said. “I’m proud to come from a line of small business owners and will continue to work hard to ensure our area sees prosperity and growth today, and in the future.”
Felzkowski said she has been proud to work alongside former Governor Scott Walker and State Senator Tom Tiffany “to protect our second amendment rights, fight against job-killing regulations and usher in bold reforms that have saved taxpayers billions and made our economy strong” in her time as a representative.
“I will continue that fight in the State Senate and make sure we have a strong voice down in Madison,” she stated.
Tiffany (R-Minocqua), who currently represents the 12th Senate District, will face Democrat Tricia Zunker in a May 12 special election to decide who will fill the vacant seat in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District.
Felzkowski has served two terms on the Joint Finance Committee and currently serves on the Assembly Committees for Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, Sporting Heritage and Health. She is a member of the Paper Caucus, Rural Wisconsin Initiative, and was elected by her colleagues to serve as Assistant Majority Leader of the Assembly Republican Caucus. She is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, the former president of Tomahawk Main Street, the former president of Tomahawk Child Care, board member of the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, and a member of the Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce and Professional Insurance Agents of Wisconsin.
