Raise Your Voice Club takes part in Youth Advocacy Day at State Capitol

Posted

TOMAHAWK – Several School District of Tomahawk students recently had the opportunity to travel to Madison to advocate for mental health awareness and support.

Members of the local Raise Your Voice Club joined nearly 200 other students from across the state at the Capitol on Youth Advocacy Day, during which, students from Tomahawk, Merrill and Antigo met with staff members for State Senator Mary Felzkowski and State Representative Calvin Callahan to discuss the importance of funding for 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) and increased mental health services in public schools.

“Thank you to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for making this experience possible, not only by assisting with scheduling these meetings, but also by preparing students with the skills and confidence needed to speak with legislators and advocate for mental health resources,” the district said. “We are incredibly proud of our students for using their voices and engaging in their civic process to support the well-being of others.”
