Price County Sheriff’s Office asking for public’s help in death investigation

PRICE COUNTY – The Price County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with an investigation into the death of individual found north of Prentice.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, Nov. 3, at approximately 8:56 p.m., a deceased person was discovered near the area of State Hwy. 13 and Whitby Rd. in the Town of Hackett.

There is no known threat to the community, and the investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Sheriff’s Office said it is “continuing to follow up on any and all leads” pertaining to the case and is asking for assistance from the public.

“If you were traveling on State Hwy. 13 near Whitby Rd. on Nov. 3, 2024, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. and noticed anything suspicious, or if you were travelling on State Hwy. 13 near Whitby Rd. and your vehicle is equipped with a dash camera, you are asked to contact the Price County Sheriff’s Office at 715-339-3011,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Agencies assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the investigation include the Prentice Fire Department, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Price County Coroner’s Office, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and the Rhinelander Police Department.

No further information had been provided by the Sheriff’s Office as of 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
