MADISON – An Ogema man has been charged with defrauding the federal crop insurance program.
According to a release from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), an indictment from a federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin alleges that Lance G. Meier, 52, submitted a fraudulent Wells Fargo bank statement to the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation in connection with reinstating his crop insurance.
Meier faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison if convicted.
DOJ said the charge against Meier is the result of an investigation conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Stelljes is handling the case.
