OCHD continuing to offer flu vaccines

Posted

ONEIDA COUNTY – The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) is continuing to offer flu vaccines.

“While being vaccinated sooner does make it more likely you will be protected against the flu when activity picks up, vaccination into the winter and beyond can be beneficial during most flu seasons,” OCHD stated. “Flu season peaks most often between December and March, but can continue as late as May.”

OCHD noted that for millions of people every season, the flu means a fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, fatigue and miserable days spent in bed.

Some people are at high risk for serious flu-related complications that can lead to hospitalization and even death. People at high risk include pregnant women; children younger than five, but especially children younger than two years old; people 65 year of age and older; and people who have certain medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease and other immunocompromising conditions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a flu vaccine every year to help prevent the flu.

Flu and COVID vaccines are available at OCHD, 100 W. Keenan St., Rhinelander, on Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are not necessary.
