Nystrom resigns from city council

Posted

TOMAHAWK – The City of Tomahawk Common Council is looking to fill a vacant seat following the resignation of a member.

Alderman Ed Nystrom resigned from his post last week. He represented Wards 1 and 2 in District 1.

In a letter to the council, Mayor Steve Taskay and Clerk/Treasurer Amanda Bartz, dated Wednesday, May 28, Nystrom said that due to recent health issues, he decided it is “in the best interest of myself and the taxpayers that I resign my position on the council, effective immediately.”

“This is not how I wanted to end my time with the city, but I believe it is best for all,” Nystrom stated.

The city will accept letters of interest to fill the vacancy until 4 p.m. on Friday, June 27. Letters must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 23 N. 3rd St., Tomahawk, Wis., 54487.

Mayor Steve Taskay and District 1 alderpersons Pat Haskin and Mickey Loka will review the applications and recommend a candidate to the council.

The council anticipates appointing the successful candidate during its Tuesday, July 1 meeting.

The appointee will serve until the April 2026 Spring Election. A special election will then be held to elect a candidate to serve the remainder of Nystrom’s term, which runs through 2027.
