RHINELANDER – This summer, Nicolet College in Rhinelander will launch a new, free Intro to Engineering Experiences Bootcamp for high school students and adults.
The bootcamp will run from Tuesday, June 10 through Thursday, June 12; and Tuesday, June 17 through Thursday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
A release from Nicolet said learners in the six-day bootcamp will apply engineering principles through hands-on robotics and drone activities while building leadership, collaboration and teamwork skills. They will also earn one free college credit by completing Nicolet College’s Introduction to Engineering course via the bootcamp.
“This bootcamp will open the door to exciting possibilities and help learners make decisions to launch into engineering and associated fields in drones and robotics,” said Gary Zarda, Dean of University Transfer and Liberal Arts.
Superior Diesel, a Rhinelander-based diesel engine and products company, donated the funds needed to run the bootcamp and to provide opportunities for learners interested in high-demand careers in engineering.
Nicolet noted that engineering education in the Northwoods doesn’t stop at bootcamps.
“Future engineers can start their studies at Nicolet College,” Nicolet stated. “Thanks to a partnership between Nicolet College and University of Wisconsin-Platteville, learners can complete an Associate of Science degree at Nicolet College and transfer seamlessly into a primarily online engineering Bachelor of Science program with junior status with UW-Platteville. Partnerships like these between Nicolet College and four-year universities help learners achieve their career goals while saving money and building confidence alongside highly-credentialed college instructors close to home, which is especially beneficial for young learners or working adults.”
