Melvin A. Hartwig Jr., age 75, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024. Melvin was born in Tomahawk on Dec. 8, 1948, to the late Melvin and Alice (Cloke) Hartwig.
He attended Tomahawk High School. After high school, Melvin joined the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam as a driver in the 534th transportation company receiving two Purple Hearts. He was married to RoseMary Graham on April 24, 1971; she passed away in 2022. Melvin was employed as a tool maker at Ridge Tool Company. He was a life member of the Elyria VFW and enjoyed traveling.
Melvin is survived by his sister, Burna Martin; and his brothers, Chris Hartwig and Rick Hartwig. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Ronnie and David; and his sister, Donna Schoerner. Funeral services, with Military Honors, were held in Ohio.
