Maureen M. Newborg, age 85, of Tomahawk, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, surrounded by her family, at Riverview Health Services under the care of Moments Hospice. Maureen was born in Tomahawk to the late Charles and Hilga (Kall) O’Rourke on June 1, 1939. She was married to Norman Newborg on Aug. 21, 1958; he passed away on Jan. 31, 1997.
Maureen was a 1957 graduate of the Tomahawk High School. After high school, she entered the workforce where she was the produce manager at various grocery stores including Kall’s IGA, Jack’s Super, and Lee & Jan’s. Maureen was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, following her favorite teams, the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. She enjoyed her visits to the casino and loved shopping. In her younger years, she spent time bowling and playing golf. Maureen cared deeply for the many dogs she owned during her life, especially her Labradoodle, Bailey.
Survivors include her daughter, Dana (Jason) Thompson; her grandchildren, Dustyn (Holly) DuPlayee, and Jayleigh Thompson (fiancé Dawson Scholz); her great-granddaughter, Adelaide DuPlayee; the Sundquist family, Lynne, Terri (Bob), David (Adrienne - and their daughter, Eva), and Mike (Jenna), who became her family and she loved them as such; her very special friends, LouAnn, Jane, and Sharon; along with extended relatives and friends.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hilga; her husband, Norm; her brother, Donald (Rona) O’Rourke; and her nephew, Dan Newborg.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Aspirus Tomahawk, NP Fidelis, Dr. McCool, the staff at Riverview Health Services, and the nurses with Moments Hospice, Kelly, Cassie, and Holly. Lastly, thank you to Lynne…her selfless dedication and love in taking care of both Norm and Maureen has made a significant impact in our lives.
The family will hold a private celebration of life gathering at a later date.
