Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Aug. 7, 2023

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Aug. 7:

On 08-1-2023 the Sheriff’s Office received information from the Langlade County Sheriff’s Office of a reckless driver that was observed doing burnouts in Langlade County. The driver of the vehicle was believed to a Merrill man, 42. Later in the same evening, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a citizen complaint about a reckless driver and the description was similar to Langlade County’s complaint. A deputy located the suspect vehicle on CTH B near Parrish Rd. in the Town of Harrison. Based on the citizen complaint and other traffic violations, the deputy stopped the suspect vehicle. In making contact with the driver, the deputy found the Merrill man to appear to be impaired. The driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a first offense of OWI.

On 08-1-2023 the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a party violating the terms of his bond. The suspect, a Merrill man, 40, had been released on bond for an Oneida County case, and one of the conditions of the bond was the suspect was not permitted to have a phone. This is due to the fact that the Oneida County case is related to sex crimes with a minor. The deputy made phone contact with the suspect and later met with him to discuss the case. The suspect was arrested for violating the terms of his court bond.

On 08-4-2023 deputies were sent to an address on Tannery Rd. in the Town of Scott for a disturbance in progress. The male suspect, a Merrill man, 39, had previously been dropped off at the address by an officer with the Merrill PD. After being dropped off, the male subject started acting disorderly, which led to the Sheriff’s Office being called. Upon investigating, the deputy learned that the suspect was yelling obscenities at his ex-spouse at the house and was becoming physically aggressive. As a result, the suspect was arrested for an offense of domestic disorderly conduct.

On 08-4-2023 a deputy was sent to investigate a trespassing complaint at an address on CTH C in the Town of Merrill. The victim reported two people entered his land without his permission. The suspects were only on the property for a short time, but while there they removed one of the memory cards from the victim’s camera. The suspects a Merrill man, 37, and a Tomahawk woman, 30, were captured on a second camera. The deputy later located the suspects and placed them under arrest. The male suspect was also arrested on a probation hold.

On 08-5-2023 deputies were sent to the Rock Island Resort in the Town of Merrill for a reported fight in progress. It was further reported that two males were fighting and one was possibly armed with a knife. A Marinette woman, 26, had been asked to leave the property. After this, her boyfriend, a Marinette man, 25, started fighting other people. While investigating the circumstances around the fight, the deputies spoke with a Merrill man, 30, who refused to identify himself and attempted to walk away from the deputies. As a result, all three parties were arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail. No injuries were reported as a result of the fight.

On 08-5-2023 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on USH 51 near CTH Q in the Town of Pine River. Upon contact with the driver, a Wausau man, 29, was found to be showing signs of impairment. The driver was placed through a series of field sobriety tests and as a result of those tests was placed under arrest for a second offense OWI.

On 08-5-2023 a deputy on patrol stopped a UTV for speeding on CTH D near Wild Fire Ln. in the Town of King. Upon contact with the driver, and Irma man, 40, was found to be showing signs of impairment. The driver was placed through a series of field sobriety tests and as a result of those tests was placed under arrest for first offense operating a UTV OWI.

On 08-5-2023 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for traveling left of center on CTH S near Herb Mitchell Rd. in the Town of Bradley. The driver, an Irma woman, 60, was found to have open intoxicants in the vehicle and appeared to be impaired. She indicated she was coming from golfing. The driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests, and as a result of the tests, she was placed under arrest for first offense OWI. She was later released to a responsible party.

On 08-6-2023 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on USH 51 north of CTH C in the Town of Merrill. The driver, a Wausau man, 27, was found to be showing signs of impairment and placed through a series of sobriety tests. As a result of those tests, the driver was placed under arrest for second offense OWI. The driver was later booked into the Lincoln County Jail.

On 08-7-2023 the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office notified the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office of a possible sexual assault that occurred in Lincoln County near Camp Rice Point Rd. in the Town of Bradley. It was reported that the suspect, an Abbotsford man, 33, sexually assaulted a female party. The investigating deputy spoke with the victim and observed evidence that supported the report of a sexual assault. The male suspect was subsequently arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked on an offense of second degree sexual assault. The investigation in ongoing.

On 08-7-2023 the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a vehicle parked on the road across from the reporting parties’ address on CTH E in the Town of Bradley. The responding deputy located the suspect vehicle on the roadway with the car in drive, and the driver, a Tomahawk man, 23, passed out behind the wheel with his foot on the break. The deputy saw signs of impairment and placed the driver through a series of sobriety tests. As a result of those tests the driver was placed under arrest for first offense OWI. The driver was later released to his parents.

There were five car vs. deer crashes reported in the week, with one causing minor injuries.
