Letter to the Editor: Dec. 3, 2025

Letter to the Editor published in the Dec. 3, 2025 issue of the Tomahawk Leader.

Godspeed ‘Ol’ Fox’

I was saddened to read of the passing of "The Ol’ Fox" Gene Seipp.

In my book, he was a local legend, holding knowledge of fishing and the outdoors that only a seasoned veteran of many years could possess. And he would humbly share his wealth of experience openly with anyone who took the time to engage him.

I first met Gene decades ago on a guided musky hunt. As a guide, he always put his client first, sharing great spots and insights. The dozens of musky caught after that outing I attribute to Gene's generous education.

I coaxed him out of retirement to guide my then-retired father-in-law. He followed up that outing with a kind personal letter to him, a lost art these days and a letter my father-in-law treasures to this day.

Whether publishing his outdoors experiences or verbally sharing insights on the radio, Gene was a gentleman and a scholar of all things outdoors. I recall his boat wasn't anything fancy, and it didn't need to be. The gold was in the guide.

I felt blessed to have made his acquaintance, and my condolences go out to his family members still here.

Godspeed "Ol’ Fox.”
