For the Tomahawk Leader
LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD) recently shared strategies for staying healthy this fall.
“As the days get shorter and temperatures cool, we will all be spending more time indoors, making it easier for germs and illness to spread,” LCHD said. “LCHD wants to remind everyone of ways you can stay healthy and resources that are available to promote health and safety this fall.”
LCHD provided the following tips:
- Eat healthy. Eating a well-balanced meal can give you energy throughout the day. Aim for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low-fat dairy products to make healthy meals.
- Be active. Adults need at least 150 minutes of activity every week. It is beneficial to try to get 30 minutes of physical activity every day.
- Wash your hands. Prevent the spread of germs by washing your hands at key times, such as after using the bathroom or before eating.
- Get enough sleep. Aim to get six to eight hours of sleep each night.
- Avoid tobacco products. If you or someone you know is trying to quit using tobacco products, free support is available at 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
- Hydrate. Try to substitute one sugary or alcoholic drink for water. It is a great way to stay hydrated and reduce the number of calories you are drinking.
- Make time to unwind and connect with others. Practice taking deep breaths, stretching or meditating throughout the day to relieve some stress that you may be experiencing. Talk to individuals that you trust and let them know how you are feeling.
- Stay up-to-date with vaccinations. LCHD offers no-charge options for flu and COVID-19 vaccines, including the COVID-19 booster vaccine. Being vaccinated is a great way to protect yourself and family from becoming extremely ill. Call 715-536-0307 or visit www.lincolncountyhealthdepartment.com to register.
- Get your annual screenings done. Visit your doctor and dentist for preventive services and regular checkups. This could help detect underlying issues before they become a problem.
- Stay home when you are sick. Staying home when you are ill is an important way to avoid spreading germs and making sure you are not getting others sick. Staying in one room and one bathroom is a good way to prevent spreading germs throughout your own home.
