Lady Hatchet hoopsters drop pair of GNC road games to N. Pines, Mosinee

After opening the season with four straight road games, the Lady Hatchet hoopsters will finally host their season home opener when GNC opponent Medford visits Hatchet Fieldhouse this Thursday, Dec. 12.

Last week Tomahawk was on the road for a pair of GNC showdowns. In the first they fell to Northland Pines in Eagle River by a score 56-28. Tomahawk head coach Garth Gerstenberger said a big reason why his team came up short was they had a tough night on the boards.

“We gave up too many second chances to the Eagles,” coach Gerstenberger stated. “We played better in the second half of the game. They outscored us 16 to 15 in the second half. We were more patient on offense and worked the ball around and took better shots.”

Hailey Liebelt led Tomahawk in scoring with 9 points and Maddie Marino and Natalie Zastrow chipped in 5 apiece in the loss to Pines.

To finish out the week Tomahawk traveled to Mosinee Friday and fell by a score 72-17. The coach said he was impressed the way the team played hard the entire game and never gave up despite the score.

“We had a lot of trouble with their quickness. We need to take better care of the ball and will continue to work on the fundamentals in practice.”

Opening tip against Medford Dec. 12 for the season home opener at Hatchet Fieldhouse is at 7:15 p.m.
