Kathryn “Kay” Johnson, born May 15, 1936, passed away at the age of 88 on May 17, 2024 in Mesa, Ariz. She was in the presence of her daughter, Candy Bowie and Stillwater Hospice. She was born to parents James and Edna Fox.
She is survived by her four children, Candy (Roy) Bowie, Bob (Donna) Johnson, Ken (Sheri) Johnson and Larry Johnson, in addition to six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one brother, Jim Fox, four nephews and two nieces.
Kay resided in Tomahawk with her husband Fred until his death in 2010. She entered the Navy in 1954 as a Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services (WAVES) at Camp Lejeune, N.C. She worked as a nursing assistant in Tomahawk and Rhinelander for over 30 years. She and her husband did foster care for several children and opened up their home for another wonderful woman to live for several years. Kay visited different elderly individuals at their homes and gave personal cares to help families out. Her interests included knitting, crocheting, reading, writing poetry, helping with Kinship, working with the Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers which she helped organize and assisting with many of the needs and functions of the First Congregational Church which she attended. Kay was known for her kind spirit, gracious manner, helping hand, and finally, giving support, love and honor to her family, friends and the sacred fellowship of the Armed Forces of the United States. She will be greatly missed and remembered.
A memorial service was held at the First Congregational Church in Tomahawk by Pastor John on June 24, 2024.
