TOWN OF MERRILL – Last week, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced that Governor Tony Evers approved a $7.1 million contract to improve State Hwy. 17 between State Hwy. 64 and Big Hay Meadow Creek in the Town of Merrill.
A release from WisDOT said work is scheduled to begin this month.
The project was originally scheduled for 2027, but road conditions facilitated the moving up of the project, according to WisDOT.
Crews will remove and replace the existing pavement on State Hwy. 17 from State Hwy. 64 north to the Big Hay Meadow Creek structure, along with intersection geometry modifications at the County Hwy. G and County Hwy. C intersections.
During construction, State Hwy. 17 will be closed and detoured via County Hwy. C and County Hwy. G.
Construction is scheduled for completion in 2027. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress, WisDOT noted.
James Peterson Sons is the prime contractor for the project.
