Hatchet spikers rack up wins with Regionals on horizon

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet volleyball team earned numerous wins with the end of the regular season approaching.

Northland Pines

The Hatchets kicked off a winning streak with a 3-1 road victory over Northland Pines (25-7, 24-26, 25-16, 25-18) on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Hatchet stats: Chloe Buckwalter, 43 assists (season high), 11 digs; Macy Jankiewicz, 18 kills (season high), three blocks; Samantha Gebauer, 21 digs, three aces; Claire Albert, seven kills, 19 digs, two aces; Cadee Benaszeski, 10 kills; Siennah Calkins, 11 kills, three blocks.

Medford

On Thursday, the Tomahawk spikers hosted Medford and emerged with a 3-1 win (5-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22).

Hatchet stats: Buckwalter 33 assists, 12 digs, 5 kills, 1 ace; Benaszeski, 13 kills; Jankiewicz, nine kills, three blocks; Calkins, nine kills, three blocks; Albert, eight kills, 22 digs; Gebauer, 33 digs (season high), one ace.

Rhinelander

The Hatchets traveled to Rhinelander on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and earned a 3-1 victory (7-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21).

Hatchet stats: Buckwalter, 36 assists, three aces.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood

Tomahawk’s winning streak ended when the team fell in a road matchup against Wittenberg-Birnamwood by a score of 2-3 (25-12, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 13-15) on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Hatchet stats: Buckwalter, 36 assists, 10 digs; Jankiewicz, 12 kills; Gebauer, 18 digs (hit 1,000 career digs), two aces; Albert, 10 kills, 10 digs, one ace; Emerson Lange, six kills, 13 digs, five aces.

Recent, upcoming action

The Hatchets wrapped up their regular season by hosting a conference tournament against Antigo, Lakeland and Mosinee on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Regionals are slated to take place next week.
