Hatchet grapplers capture conference title in dominant fashion

MINOCQUA – The Tomahawk High School boys’ wrestling team delivered a dominant performance at the Great Northern Conference (GNC) Tournament at Lakeland High School on Saturday, Feb. 7, bringing home the conference title.

After an undefeated 5-0 season in conference dual meets, the Hatchets capped off their dominance by winning the tournament with an impressive 457 team points, well ahead of second-place Mosinee (319) and third-place Medford (289).

Hudson Evans (165 lbs.), Blake Younker (190 lbs.) and Nathan Norman (215 lbs.) claimed individual conference championships.

In addition to their champions, nine other Tomahawk wrestlers earned All-Conference honors.

Second-place finishers were Tyler Waller (106), Jack Derleth (132), Walter Horabik (138), Zander Zehner (144), Fletcher Baumann (150) and Miles McGowan (157), while Zach Larson (120), Harmon Hoffman (126), and Ethan Gibeault (HWT) earned third place.

With 12 All-Conference wrestlers, the Hatchets showcased their depth, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament.

This week’s action

The Tomahawk grapplers will now turn their attention to the Regional tournament in Hayward on Saturday, Feb. 15.
