Girls’ wrestling: Tomahawk competes in Regional meet

WAUSAU – The Tomahawk High School girls’ wrestling team traveled to Wausau West High School on Friday, Feb. 14, to compete in the WIAA Regional meet.

The athletes were vying for a top-four finish in order to advance to the Sectional tournament.

The team was represented by Alli Palmer, Gracie Long, Kaylee Roberts, Alena Cerkas, Julia McGovern and Peyton Haring. All of them showed incredible determination and grit, but fell short of reaching the sectional cutoff.

Several Tomahawk wrestlers advance to Sectionals. Cadence Thompson secured 4th place, while Abbie Rosenmeier and Alicia Voermans took 3rd. Kami Gabrich finished in 2nd place, and both Kylie Peissig and Elise Gibeault claimed Regional championships, securing their spots in the Sectional tournament.

As a team, the Lady Hatchets finished in 3rd place with a total of 161.5 points. Shawano Community earned 2nd place with 176 points, and Wausau West, the Regional champion, finished with 237.5 points.

Sectional meet

The WIAA Sectional Meet was held at Shawano High School on Friday, Feb. 21.
