For the Tomahawk Leader

MINOCQUA – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team took on the Lakeland Thunderbirds in a road matchup on Friday, Aug. 25 and came out on top in a game where the defenses shined.

The only score of the game took place in the first quarter, when Tomahawk’s Rex Reilly ran in a touchdown from one yard out. Following the successful extra point, Tomahawk took a 7-0 lead, which it would hold for the remainder of the game.

Both the Hatchets and the T-Birds forced several turnovers on downs and punts after the Hatchet touchdown, and neither offense was able to notch another score. Each team also lost one fumble.

Tomahawk finished the game with 169 total yards, while Lakeland racked up 270.

Reilly (nine carries, 13 yards, one touchdown) and Brayden Larson (eight carries, 22 yards) were the Hatchets’ top rushers, with Landyn Seymour and Caleb Dickens also contributing.

Through the air, Reilly went 6-11 for 131 yards. Jonah Dickens (two catches, 75 yards) and Caleb Dickens (two catches, 31 yards) led the air attack. Larson and Beau Stromberg each had one catch for 13 yards and seven yards, respectively.

Tomahawk improved its record to 1-1 with the victory.
