LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will replace its aging camera systems after receiving a donation to cover the associated costs.
During its meeting at the Lincoln County Service Center in Merrill on Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution accepting a donation of $533,349.50 to purchase new squad cameras, body cameras and related data storage systems for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the resolution, drafted by Lincoln County Sheriff Ken Schneider, the cameras currently being used in Sheriff’s Office’s patrol vehicles are nearing the end of their life cycles, and half of them no longer record audio.
The Sheriff’s Office also sought to replace body-worn cameras, citing the safety of Corrections staff and protection from liability when state inmates are housed at the Lincoln County Jail.
The Biermann Foundation has made financial contributions to the Sheriff’s Office in the past, and after the Sheriff’s Office presented the camera package to the Foundation, funding for the project was approved.
No timeline for when the Sheriff’s Office would receive the new camera systems was provided during the meeting.
