Angeline J. Taves, age 90 of Ashland, Wis., and formerly of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Court Manor Health Services in Ashland, Wis. Angeline was born on Aug. 28, 1934 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Francis and Angeline (Zahorak) Sortek.
Angie eloped with John A. Taves Jr., after a six-week whirlwind engagement in 1954 and celebrated 55 years of marriage before John’s passing in 2009.
Angie loved baking cookies and took great pleasure in sharing the hundreds upon hundreds of cookies she baked every year with any and all who had a sweet tooth. Picking berries and making jams and jellies was another passion that Angie enjoyed, along with crocheting, and fishing. But, the biggest joy in her life was bowling in the afternoon league at Strikers Lanes in Tomahawk. Big shout out to Gary and Strikers and all the ladies in that Wednesday afternoon league. You were her second family. She loved and spoke of all of you very fondly.
She is survived by her children, David Taves, Brian (Paula) Taves, and Janet (Ed) Koseneski; grandchildren, Beau Bruneau, Spencer (Sarah) Taves; sister, Karen Sackett; brother-in-law, Larry (Delores) Meister; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John A. Taves; sisters Fran Fritz and Barb Michaelson; and brother Jon Sortek.
