Alzheimer’s Association workshop to explore preparing finances for dementia diagnosis

RHINELANDER – The Alzheimer’s Association will offer an educational workshop covering tips for managing finances, how to prepare for future care costs and the benefits of early planning related to a dementia diagnosis.

The free Managing Money program will be held on Tuesday, July 18, at the ADRC of Oneida County, 100 Keenan St., Rhinelander, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

“If you or someone you know is facing Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or another chronic illness, it’s never too early to put financial plans in place,” a release from the Alzheimer’s Association said. “This workshop provides a general overview for people who are facing a diagnosis, as well as those who wish to be informed.”

The workshop will describe how caregiving affects finances, list the legal and financial documents caregivers should put in place, prepare for useful discussions about financial decisions and planning, identify steps to lower the chances of financial abuse and fraud, begin to create a backup plan in case a caregiver can no longer provide care and offer helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources.

The Alzheimer’s Association said in the United States alone, more than six million individuals are living with Alzheimer’s, and 16 million are serving as their unpaid caregivers.

“The disease is a global crisis that impacts numerous families right here in our community,” the Alzheimer’s Association stated. “However, no one has to face this disease alone or without information.”
