ADRC-CW, Bone and Joint to host balance workshop for older adults

Posted

MERRILL – Later this month, the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin (ADRC-CW), in partnership with Bone and Joint, will host a workshop focused on improving balance in older adults.

The return of the highly anticipated workshop, “A Sense of Balance: Improving Balance as You Age,” will be held at the Lincoln County Service Center, 801 N. Sales St., Merrill, on Wednesday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“If you’ve ever felt a little unsteady on your feet or worried about a potential fall, you are not alone – and you don’t have let that worry dictate your lifestyle,” a release from the ADRC-CW said.

According to the release, participants will enjoy an interactive learning environment led by Jennifer Clark, Community Health Educator at the ADRC-CW; and Bone and Joint Physical Therapist Cindy Koehler, who will demonstrate exercises designed to enhance balance and support independence.

“While many factors can cause a fall, regular exercise and strength training are key to staying steady on your feet and maintaining your independence,” Clark stated. “This presentation covers the various factors that cause falls, while taking a closer look at the specific muscles needed to improve balance and prevent injury.”

“Whether you’ve had a fall in the past or want to be proactive about your mobility, to prevent them in the future, (the workshop) can equip you with the tools to stay strong and balanced,” the ADRC-CW said.

The class is free to attend, but contributions are appreciated.

Space is limited, and registration is highly encouraged. To register, visit www.adrc-cw.org/classes-groups or call 888-486-9545.
