    Klay Ahles of Tomahawk Troop 548 Boy Scouts of America received his Eagle Scout Award on Oct. 9th, 2008. Klay is the 38th Eagle Scout of Troop 548 to earn the award.

    In addition to earning 28 merit badges, he has held the leadership positions of Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. Klay is currently holding the position of Instructor in the troop. As an instructor he works with the new Scouts in learning the skills required to advance in the Scouting program.

    As part of the requirements for Eagle Scout, Klay developed and carried out a community service project which consisted of doing the landscaping and building and installing benches in Mary’s Park, a new park the is located in the Town of Nokomis where Klay lives. It was his responsibility to design the plan, arrange the materials and along with the help of other scouts and leaders to complete the project.

    Klay has been a member of the troop for seven years and has attended Summer camp with the troop at Camp Tesomas each year. He has also gone on six High Adventure trips including several canoe trips to the Boundary waters, Backpacking Isle Royal, and Pictured Rocks. He has also attended almost all of the troop’s campouts that are held monthly, winter and summer.

    Organized as Troop 48 in 1932, Troop 548 is part of the Northwoods District of Samoset Council. Troop 548 has been sponsored by Bronsted-Searl Post 93 of the American Legion for the entire 76 years.


    Congratulations. The Eagle Scout award involves a great deal of work and dedication.
