Hatchet hoopsters drop games to Prentice, Mosinee

For the Tomahawk Leader

PRENTICE – The Tomahawk Hatchet boys’ basketball team fell to Prentice and Mosinee last week.

Prentice

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Hatchets traveled to Prentice and were defeated by a score of 88-48.

Coach Jacob Jarvensivu noted that Prentice shot the ball really well to start the game, and Tomahawk turned the ball over often in the first half. Prentice led 43-27 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hatchets continued to struggle to slow down the Buccaneers, who cruised to victory.

The Hatchets were led in scoring by Tyler Jablonski with 18 points. Gavyn Palmer added 11.

“This was a letdown game for us,” Jarvensivu stated. “We came out and did not execute from the start of the game. The one thing I will never question with our boys is that our effort is outstanding. We just did not play well.”

Mosinee

The Hatchets were on the road again on Friday, Dec. 9, this time traveling to Mosinee.

The defending GNC champion Mosinee squad proved to be a tough test for Tomahawk. Mosinee took a commanding 47-13 lead into halftime before cruising to a 76-24 win.

Gavyn Palmer’s eight points led the Hatchets.

“Although we were severely outmatched, I think the boys played really well in this game,” Jarvensivu said. “Defensively, we showed a lot of improvement since (last) Tuesday. We need to add consistency on both sides of the ball in order to take the next step.”

Upcoming games

The Hatchets’ next two games will be at home.

Medford will be in town on Friday, Dec. 16 for a showdown that gets underway at 7:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, Tomahawk will play Marion at Hatchet Fieldhouse. Opening tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
