French Climate activist visits Boulangerie in Tomahawk during cross-country biking journey

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – Climate activist David Ligouy stopped in Tomahawk on Thursday, Sept. 29, as part of his journey bicycling across the United States to Montreal, Canada.

Ligouy, a native of France, is the founder of Bank on the Climate, a campaign with a “vision for creating a fossil-fuel free future with a green, efficient way of transportation.”

Since 2018, Ligouy has been traveling the world on a solar-powered bicycle in an effort to raise awareness for climate-friendly transit.

Ligouy made his visit to Tomahawk specifically to eat at French bakery Boulangerie, 114 W. Wisconsin Ave. He had been in Minneapolis, Minn., two days prior to arriving in Tomahawk, and from Tomahawk, he was headed east to Crandon.

Ligouy said he aims to reach Montreal by early November so he can prepare for the United Nations (UN)’s Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) in December, where world governments will gather to agree to a new set of goals to guide global climate action through 2040.

Next spring, Ligouy plans to make his way south on the East Coast of the United States before pedaling to Mexico.

While in Tomahawk, Ligouy enjoyed Boulangerie’s twice-baked almond croissants, noting that they’re the best he’s ever had and that they even compare to those made in his home country of France.

Ligouy also conducted an interview with Mike Bellile of Tomahawk’s Coasters Cycle Works. The interview, which focuses on FAT Tire bikes, will be posted on Ligouy’s YouTube channel at www.bit.ly/3y5KyJE.
