Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Aug. 22, 2022

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Aug. 22:

On 08-15-22 a deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on USH 51 near Pope Rd. in the Town of Merrill. The driver, a man, 24, from South Holland, Ill., was cited for traveling 105 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.

On 08-16-2022 deputies were dispatched to an address on Merrill Town Hall Rd. in the Town of Merrill for a domestic dispute that was reported to be physical with injuries. Deputies arrived on scene to learn that the dispute was between a Merrill man, 52, and his wife, 52. During the argument, it was reported that the male subject punched his wife in the face and slammed her head into the ground. As a result of this, the male was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked in for domestic battery and disorderly conduct. The female party did receive injuries as a result of the incident but refused medical treatment.

On 08-17-2022 a deputy was dispatched to the area of Neuwirth Rd. and Echo Lake Rd. in the Town of Russell for a car crash with no injuries. When the deputy arrived on scene, he spoke with a Three Lakes man, 32, who was working on trying to get the car out of the ditch and running. The deputy felt that the male was being untruthful in answering the deputy’s questions. The deputy found that the male who was the driver was required to have an ignition interlock device installed in his car for previous OWI violations and he did not have one. As a result, the male was arrested for the violation and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 08-17-2022 deputies were dispatched to the area of CTH Q and CTH Z in the Town of Scott for a reported minor car crash with injuries. It was reported that a vehicle traveling on CTH Q struck a turkey, destroying the vehicle’s windshield. As a result, the driver, a Plover woman, 47, received minor cuts. She did not require medical treatment.

On 08-17-2022 a deputy on patrol was traveling N/B on CTH A attempting to turn onto CTH U in the Town of Bradley. As the deputy was slowing and stopping in traffic, another N/B vehicle struck the deputy’s squad in the right rear corner causing minor damage to the squad. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Tomahawk Police Dept. investigated the crash as it involved a sheriff’s squad.

On 08-20-22 dispatch received a call of a possible burglary in progress at an address on CTH CC in the Town of Wilson. The suspect, a Tomahawk man, 55, was formerly in a relationship with one of the females in the house he was attempting to break into. Prior to deputies arriving on scene, the suspect left the property. Deputies located the suspect a short time later and stopped him to continue the investigation. During the stop, the driver showed signs of impairment and was placed through a series of SFSTs. As a result of those tests, the driver was arrested for OWI first offense and probation violation, where he was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 08-21-22 a deputy on patrol located a vehicle parked on the side of the road on USH 51 near CTH K in the Town of Merrill. Upon investigating, the deputy found the driver and only occupant, a Merrill man, 55, sleeping in the car. In talking with the deputy, the man first said he had been driving all day and was just tired, but then later admitted that he had too much to drink and pulled over. The man refused to do SFSTs and as a result was placed under arrest for a fifth offense of OWI, which is a felony offense, and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 08-21-22 a deputy was dispatched to the Lincoln County Jail to investigate an incident where an inmate assaulted a correction officer. It was reported that an inmate in the jail, a Merrill man, 41, had spit on a corrections officer. Charges of disorderly conduct and prisoner throw/expel bodily substance will be requested against the inmate. The inmate is awaiting trial for a felony arrest from 2021 and since being in jail has been charged several times with spitting on staff.

On 08-21-22 the Sheriff’s Office received at least 14 complaints of property damage in the areas along STH 107 in the Towns of Rock Falls and Bradley. There was also damage reported on CTH JJ in the Town of Rock Falls and Pope Rd. in the Town of Merrill. The property being damaged ranged from mailboxes to street signs, and in some cases it looked as though the items were intentionally stuck by a car. The Sheriff’s Office is looking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for the damage. On 08-22-2022 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle on USH 51 and USH 8 in the Town of Bradley for a speeding violation. Upon making contact with the driver, a Clinton man, 21, he was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. The driver was placed through a series of SFSTs and as a result of those tests was arrested for first offense OWI. The driver was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail for OWI. Two of the vehicle’s passengers were cited for seat belt violations and one for underage alcohol.

During this week period, there were seven car-deer crashes reported.
