TOMAHAWK – Five events have been added to the City of Tomahawk’s calendar after the city’s Common Council gave the final stamp of approval to their special event permit applications on Tuesday, June 7.

Two classic Tomahawk summertime events – Pow Wow Days and Thrilla on the Grilla – are slated to return, while two new events – Touch a Truck and the Northwoods Fall Ride Motorcycle Show – will join a host of events scheduled this year.

The council also gave the thumbs up to a live music performance downtown.

Live music downtown

Tomahawk Tattoo & Tan, 22 N. Railway St., is slated to host live music on the evening of Saturday, July 2. American Legion Post 93 will co-sponsor the event.

According to the permit application, a half block on both ends of Railway St. will be blocked, as well as the corner of W. Wisconsin Ave. and N. Railway St.

Touch a Truck

A new event sponsored by Tomahawk Together and the City of Tomahawk Parks Department will bring awareness to the proposed Washington Square Park improvements and continue fundraising efforts for those improvements.

“Touch a Truck” will see individuals and businesses bring their large trucks and equipment to the park, where children will have an opportunity to look at and experience them.

The event will take place in the parking lot/basketball courts of Washington Square Park on Sunday, July 3. The event will be set up at 9 a.m. and will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers estimate that about 400 people will attend the event, and there may be a concession stand selling popcorn or cotton candy, according to the permit application.

Pow Wow Days

Pow Wow Days, slated for Monday, July 4, is sponsored by the Tomahawk Lions Club.

As in years past, Tomahawk’s iconic Fourth of July celebration will feature a parade, fireworks, 5K and 10K races and kids’ games. The event will begin at 6 a.m. and will end at midnight. More than 10,000 people are estimated be in attendance on Independence Day, according to the permit application. Food and alcohol sales will be available.

Thrilla on the Grilla

The Lions Club’s Thrilla on the Grilla is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13.

The famous rib and side dish contest will be held on W. Wisconsin Ave. downtown and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to the permit application, upwards of 1,500 people are estimated to attend. Food concessions and alcohol sales will be available.

Northwoods Fall Ride Motorcycle Show

A new event will be included among Tomahawk’s Fall Ride festivities.

The Northwoods Fall Ride Motorcycle Show, sponsored by WaWui LTD, is slated for Saturday, Sept. 17 in the SARA Park arena. The motorcycle show will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Since this will mark the first year of the event, estimated attendance is unknown, according to the permit application.
