MEDFORD – The Tomahawk Hatchet boys’ hockey team visited conference rivals Medford on Thursday, Jan. 8, and fell by a score of 12 to 2.
Head coach Chris Bembinster said his squad “went for a rollercoaster ride” in the matchup at the Simek Center.
“We went for a roller coaster ride tonight,” Bembinster stated. “Again, we seem to struggle to get going, but really dig deep to finish stronger than we start. We had a few extra highs and lows in the middle tonight, but finished pretty strong.”
Bembinster noted that although the young Hatchet skaters are learning “a lot of tough lessons” this year, the group still has fight.
“We move to the next game, and strive to be better every time we hit the ice!” he said.
The Hatchet skaters hosted Ashland at SARA Park on Friday, Jan. 8, and were blanked with a 13 to 0 score.
“I know our scores this year are very lopsided the wrong way. We lost tonight 13-0,” Bembinster said after the game. “With that being said, we are proud of this group. We watched players grow and mature during the game tonight. We are definitely a young and inexperienced team, but we are starting to show that we know how to play the game. No excuses, but back to back games are draining on this team. We are definitely not giving up, and improving with every game. We start the next week knowing we can put a whole game together, and hungry for our first win!”
The Hatchet pucksters were set to take the ice again on Tuesday, Jan. 12 for a 7 p.m. game at Shawano High School. They’ll be in action at SARA Park in Tomahawk on Thursday, Jan. 14, when Mosinee comes to town for a 7 p.m. matchup and will wrap up the week with a 2 p.m. game in Antigo on Saturday, Jan. 16.
