WAUKESHA – Karlie Woodall completed her high school career in diving at the WIAAWI State Swim and Dive meet in Waukesha on Friday, Nov. 13.
“She scored over 40 points more than her two previous attempts, which would have garnered a medal in those attempts, but scoring was much higher this year and she settled for a 10th-place finish,” said head coach Theresa L’Esperance. “All things considered, with practicing an average of two days a week, her efforts were outstanding. The stress of finding a pool, late night practice and driving distances were a difficult feat to overcome.”
A highlight for Woodall was scoring 43.2 points on her reverse 1SS 1 1/2 Twisting dive.
“She just learned this dive about three weeks ago,” L’Esperance noted.
Woodall’s back 1SS 1-1/2 twisting dive also scored 40.25 points.
“Karlie is really good at twisting dives,” L’Esperance stated. “A super high was scoring three 8’s on her 1-1/2 forward pike SS (sumersault). She has never achieved that high of a score at state on that particular dive. Her inward pike was also nicely scored, due to her great form.”
“Karlie has so much talent,” L’Esperance continued. “I know she has a lot to offer a strong college dive team, and I hope she pursues it. It has been an honor to coach her. We had a lot of help from family and some outside coaching via Zoom. Diving is now over for Tomahawk, but Karlie has left a legacy in the GNC that will be hard to overcome. Many divers in the region look up to her and have set their goals on achieving her status of an elite diver.”
